This has been a long day, beginning with worship. Since this is All Saint’s Day, we recognized those individuals who died this past year. I am grateful to God who promises us more than this world! After service and confirmation, I had an hour or two before youth group this evening.
Today, we had our food fight. Four of the local church youth groups come together to collect food from the community to stock our food pantry shelves and put together Thanksgiving bags of food. This year, we filled 117 bags for Thanksgiving (in all we collected close to 4,000 items in an hour), which we will put with turkeys from our church to provide Thanksgiving meals. I am so thankful for the 45 youth who came together to make a difference. Along with the youth, we probably had 25-30 adults- all working together regardless of our denomination or church affiliation. All concerned with just meeting a need.
I am so thankful for the adults in our churches who are committed to our youth and committed to bringing an end to hunger. I am so heartened by our ability to act as one body of Christ.
Thank you, God for a day full of you and thank you for allowing me to see you work. Thank you also, God, for the gift of rest to which I am looking forward to enjoying!
